When Finnol was orphaned and left at their doorstep they raised the boy together until her husband’s death (which she never fully recovered from). Her husband died while Finnol was still very young.
Her family line is one who has a responsibility to find and guide those that are god-touched within the hidden society, and her work at Castle Carrick places her perfectly. As a reward for all her hard work when the Veil thins she is granted a few hours to visit her husband in the only way possible without the Laws of Death being broken.
Belara is skilled in transformation magic and is a registered shifter. As she has acquired the knowledge to shift into two animal forms the various governmental parties vying for power consider her a possible spy. Most people that are Shifters only learn one form, but a possible reason she has been able to learn two is her role as guide for the god-touched.
