Artair Guirmean
Name: Artair Guirmean
Other Names:
Age: early 80's
Gender: male
Side:
Race: human
Forms: human
Hair Color: white
Eye Color: blue
Scents: parchment, ink, tea, incense, lemons
Skin: pale
Nationality: Scottish, but he does have some Germanic ancestry as well
Language(s): English
Element: Air
Likes: Dancing, astronomy, archaic runeology
Personality: Quiet but with a sense of humor. He does listen to the requests of the deities when they come to him, but has refused their requests at times. At times he does put students out of their comfort zones in having to deal with others, or into situations that require a student to react quickly, but only if he knows those students are truthfully up to the challenge. “Children learn best by doing, but need good examples.”
Bio: Artair's family is pure-blood magicfolk and pure-blood human, but is not one that routinely had strong magic. His mother and father lived ordinary lives. Tabitha was a librarian, Richard was a bartender. Interestingly enough Tabitha was always able to suggest books for people that were just the sort of thing they wanted after only a minute of chatting. Richard's bar, the Lounging Lion, had the lowest incidence of bar fights and was popular as a place to “come and feel good.”
Artair was born having no idea of the magical world since his parents hid so well in the Cowan world, but he did love the old stories of magic, faeries, witches and shape changing. The landscape made it very easy to believe that such tales might be true, both good and bad. Neither of his parents were surprised when it was time for him to start learning to control his magic, or when he was able to speak with an old tree on a family outing to a sacred grove.
He met Belara when they went to school together and they were close, having been in the same House. Together they had several adventures of their own which they will deny if asked about publicly, but there are a few difficult to reach places in Castle Carrick where they scratched their initials in. One of the places they had hoped to find was Bertramus' secret library.
Artair did work for a time in the Cowan world as a pilot after he finished with school and has served in the military, though this is little known. What drew him to teaching was an experience while serving in the military. One of the men he served with and became good friends with was an unDeveloped and untaught wizard that was always having problems with dejavu. They stayed in contact by letter until shortly before Artair changed careers and took a job teaching runes and ogham. After 15 years of teaching he was chosen as Headmaster.
Parents: Tabitha and Richard Guirmean.
Descendants: None
Quirks: He likes to burn incense while he is doing paperwork, because it helps him focus and relax. Unknown to the students he has a very impressive array, his favorite being rosewood.
Special: He carries a stang, or staff that is topped by a carved crane, and sometimes seems to be stone, wood, or ivory. This has the capability of flight like a broom. The top can come to life when needed. With this staff he can tap into the planetary matrix and travel via the ley lines to the power hubs such as Stonehenge, Artenhame, and even ones so far flung as Mts Fuji and Shasta. When others hold the stang he can take them with him.
